When it comes to design, good neighbor goes all in.
Founded in 2020 by partners Shawn Chopra and Anne Morgan and located in Baltimore, MD's Hampden neighborhood, good neighbor began as a coffe shop and has since expanded to include the green neighbor plant shop curated by Hilton Carter, a community space, and now a boutique hotel called good neighbor guesthouse. Inspired by Chopra and Morgan's diverse cultural backgrounds and love of travel and gathering, the good neighbor concept brings to life the rich cultural traditions of hospitality they both experienced from growing up with their respective Indian and Egyptian heritage.
good neighbor’s attention to detail and custom offerings are unparalleled, featuring items from local Baltimore brands like 228 Grant St Candles and a custom fragrance in partnership with New York City Parfumerie Le Labo. The offerings and products are truly diverse and nearly every item you encounter while staying at the hotel, from the oak shelves and toiletries to the lighting fixtures and drinkware, are available for purchase.
good neighbor takes its offerings out of their physical location with their design garage and Trade Program, inviting designers and artists across disciplines to create and collaborate. good neighbor's approach has helped them secure prestigious partnerships with brands, and they are currently the only retailer in the Mid-Atlantic with full access to Finn Juhl, Frama, Normann Copenhagen, Hem, housed in their design garage a few blocks offsite.
We had the opportunity to preview good neighbor guesthouse in August of 2023 for a quick getaway thanks to our creative partner Cohere. At Bonde Mercado, we pay keen attention to founders who are able to call upon their diverse cultural heritages from disparate regions of the world to create a well-executed concept. The soft, cream hues of the lodging interior, mixed with the bold, graphics murals in the landscaped garden combine elements of the Mediterranean with a classic, Baltimore aesthetic. In addition, to ensure the campus maintains its authenticity, partners Shawn and Anne have teamed up with Baltimore native Justin Timothy Temple to serve as the Director of Brand and Marketing.
Whether you are visiting for an artist talk, stopping in for coffee, shopping for the latest from your favorite Black artisan or creator or previewing an exclusive release from Scandinavian furniture designers, good neighbor leads with a ethos that centers community and discovery. This strong sense of values is reflected in unparalleled hospitality for all, seamlessly incorporating local, regional, and global elements. Run, don't walk, to experience this gem for yourself.
